Bucketlist 2019: Itching to Travel!

It has been about ten months that I moved back to India after spending eleven months is Spain. Ankur and I have now moved to Mumbai from Ahmedabad. We have new jobs and there is a lot happening on the work front. Obviously, we haven’t had too much time to travel. We did make a few trips to visit family, but that’s it! Having hopped around Europe in the last one year, wanderlust was satiated for a bit – that is what I thought. But its back…and its back with a bang! So, here we are itching, caught up in work, with no scope of taking leave…yet itching to travel.

I spend time on Skyscanner looking for cheap fares and keep dreaming about exploring new destinations and trying something new. Here is what is on the top of my mind:

  1. Mongolia: Steppes, rolling plains, blue skies and horses; pictures of Mongolian landscapes have smitten me for long. I want to stay in a yurt and meet the locals. Staying in a yurt also means no access to water to shower for a few days, and this what is making me have second thoughts; I need to kill the shower loving voice in my heart and head to Mongolia! Trying yak cheese is on my list, however, I am wondering if I would want to have it the second time after my maiden attempt at the tasting.

  2. Argentina: One of my closest friends is from Argentina. I just have to go visit her hometown Buenos Aires! Latin America seemed like such a distant land until about two years ago. In December 2016, I went to Ecuador, Bolivia and Brazil and fell in love with the continent and its people. Patagonia and glaciers, Argentina them both. I shall soon make my way to the continent, possibly towards the end of 2019.

  3. Japan: Japan is different – in every sense. The landscape, the culture and the people. And when I say different, I mean ‘nice’ different. Last year, a very dear Japanese friend lent me her kimono and made me some sushi. I fell in love with the people even more! A trip to Japan is on the cards to either see the cherry blossom or enjoy the fall colours…or just to go visit my dear friend.

  4. Australia: Ankur went to Australia about a decade ago, and thus, it never topped our bucketlist. However, I haven’t snorkelled or dived even once in the past two years, and Australia is possibly one of the best places on Earth to snorkel. Its a pity that the Great Barrier Reef has been declared as dead. I am still hoping that I will be able to see some awesome marine life on the Gold Coast.
  5. Colombia: Earlier this month, a very close friend gifted me a book on Colombia and its natural bounty. And suddenly, out of nowhere, Colombia made its way to my bucketlist. There is so much to see in Colombia… its like an unexplored gem. I want to revisit the Amazon and soak the Sun on the Colombian beaches. And now that I have a couple of close Colombian friends, I need not worry about safety and itinerary planning.

Each of the above destinations is so unique and getting to each one of them will cost quite a bit. I am hoping that we can at least visit a couple in 2019…and put the rest on the bucketlist!
