Northern Lights: Why choose Iceland?

Why would we want to go to Iceland in winters when the place would be more conducive in summers? Photographing the Northern Lights was a key factor that made us zero down on February/March as our travel month. We had seen the lights dance in Abisko, Sweden in 2013. However, we were not able to get any good pictures then and I had been itching to see the lights dance again and catch them on...

Blue Lagoon

Mumbai to Reykjavik is some distance… to be exact, 8330 km as the crow flies. There are no direct flights connecting the two cities. The most convenient and economical for us to get there was to take a flight to mainland Europe and then to Iceland. We got the best deal with Delta Airlines… Mumbai-Amsterdam-Reykjavik. While I am calling it the best deal, it was still a long flight. Mumbai to Amsterdam was an eleven...

Packing for Iceland

Finally, after months of wait, we are off to Iceland tonight. Ankur is in office and would be back later in the evening. I have taken a day off from work and have some extra time at hand to pack at ease. After the trip to the Arctic in 2013 to see the Northern Lights in Abisko, Sweden, we have our winter gear in place. The temperature in Abisko was -20 degrees Celsius. Add wind...

Hyderabad: Bangles in Technicolor!

The past few months have taken me to cities that continue to reflect the glorious past of the Nizams and the Nawabs. We were in Lucknow in December, in Aurangabad in January and I was lucky to spend a few days in Hyderabad earlier this month. The cultural fabric that runs through these cities is so similar. Visiting these three cities one after another was serendipity playing around. Reading more about India’s history that binds...

Kathmandu: Must See Places in a Day

Ankur was glued to the television watching the India- Sri Lanka Cricket World Cup final back in 2011. He was in Mumbai with a bunch of friends. I was in Kathmandu on work for a couple of days. I spent one entire working and the evening giving Ankur company, a few thousand miles away as I myself watched the match with equal enthusiasm. I just had one day left to see the highlights of the...

Monday Musings: Briksdal Glacier, Norway

The Nordic countries are beautiful. They showcase Nature in all her splendour, untouched by man. Of all the Nordic countries, we have only been to Sweden as yet. Iceland is on the cards later this month and we can’t wait to get to the ‘land of fire and ice’. Hopefully, we would be able to walk in an ice cave and witness a volcanic eruption. Briksdal Glacier, Norway Norway, another Nordic country, is an abode...
