Michamvi Sunset Bay Resort – Review

Zanzibari beaches are stunning – each and every single one of them. The water is blue the sand is soft and the sea life is abundant. The coast line is a perfect backdrop to click umpteen postcard like pictures. The sky turns into a colourful palette every evening and you would wish time would stand still to let you enjoy these moments forever. Such was our experience at the Michamvi Bay Sunset Resort.

Location:

Michavi Sunset Bay Resort, as the name suggests, is located by the Michamvi Bay. Possibly, it is the best beach on the entire island. At least, it was our favourite beach. The bay calms the waters making them perfectly safe to swim.whatsapp-image-2016-12-23-at-11-21-53-pm There are no sea urchins and we could jump into the water without our beach shoes. The beach is perfect to watch the sunset – whether you are swimming in the water or sitting in the poolside bar sipping on a cocktail with a little umbrella. During low tide, when waters of the Indian Ocean retreat, the pool is ideal to take a dip.whatsapp-image-2016-12-23-at-11-22-23-pm

Another reason that Michamvi Sunset Bay Resort scroes highly on location is the fact that it is within comfortable driving distance of a lot of ‘must do’ activities in Zanzibar. The famous restaurant ‘The Rock’ is just 15 minutes away. You can easily get to Kizimkazi to swim with the dolphins and visit the Jozani Forest to see the Colobus monkeys. There is also a small butterfly park near the forest to add some colour to your trip. whatsapp-image-2016-12-23-at-11-21-54-pmIf you were to choose one more area besides Stone Town to stay in, Michamvi should be the one! whatsapp-image-2016-12-23-at-11-22-57-pm

Check In/Check Out:
When we reached Michamvi Sunset Bay Resort, we were greeted by the warm and friendly staff at the breezy reception. Check in was easy and we loved our welcome drink when we checked in. The cold towels were so refreshing after the warm Zanzibari sun. The staff had all the information about the attractions near by and was happy to help us plan our days while we were a Michamvi. Check out was smooth too – we reached the reception, our bags were collected from the room and we were all set to go in a couple of minutes after bidding our good byes.

Rooms:
We walked through a couple of corridors before we got to our room. The curtains made of shells that adorned these corridors made us feel a little closer to nature. They reminded us time and again that we are on a beach vacation and it was time for fun in the sun. whatsapp-image-2016-12-23-at-11-21-30-pmOur room was on the first floor and we had to climb a short flight of stairs. While the stairs aren’t steep and are comfortable to walk, if you do have knee problems, suggest you request for a room on the ground floor as there are no elevators.whatsapp-image-2016-12-23-at-11-21-34-pm

Every room at the resort has a sea view… be rest assured that you will get to see the gorgeous sun set even if you choose to sit in the balcony of your room. The rooms are large and comfortable. We loved the little details of the room – flowers that added the tropical feel, a variety of teas that we enjoyed after a siesta.whatsapp-image-2016-12-23-at-11-22-14-pm Every thing was spic and span…the linen, the balcony and the bathroom. I particularly liked the walk in closet made of a wooden mesh – it added so much character to the room.

Food:
Let me start with the location of the restaurant and the bar….by the sea. Regardless of which meal you have, you will have the view of the azure blue Indian Ocean. We highly recommend having a pizza with your sundowner … delicious!!whatsapp-image-2016-12-23-at-11-22-00-pmThe breakfast is simple and filling; we throughly enjoyed the fresh fruits that were cut especially for us. whatsapp-image-2016-12-23-at-11-22-23-pm-1On one of the nights that we were there, we sampled the set menu for dinner. While the food was good, we were taken over by the setting…candle light dinner on the beach …with waves singing a gentle song. There was no surcharge for this setting, which was a delightful change from standard resort practices.

Service:
Service standards at Michamvi Sunset Bay resort kept us happy for the two days that we were there. We were specially impressed with the bar tender and the service at the bar, including the delicious finger food.whatsapp-image-2016-12-23-at-11-21-37-pm

We would recommend Michamvi Sunset Bay as your place of rest in Zanzibar, especially on account of its excellent location and calm waters.

Many thanks to Michamvi Sunset Bay Resort for hosting us. Our views continue to be our unbiased and we continue to rave and rant about things that pop into our mind!
