Do you like to fly?
If I say that I love flying,
I am sure you know that I am lying…
As I enter the plane,
The cleanliness freak in my mind becomes insane…
All passengers will share the same air,
With bacteria and virus piled layer over layer…
I think, wonder and ponder,
Whether my co passenger would be a grandpa, a grandma or someone younger…
What if I am next to weird man,
And I wish I could run away in a van…
What if he smells sweaty and stale,
Like a barrel of over-fermented ale…
What if he pollutes the air with a fart,
And smiles as though he is the owner of coveted art…
What if he sits with his elbows sticking out,
And all I want to do is scream, yell and shout…
What if he spills coffee all around,
And I have to sit for hours on soiled ground…
If I say that I love flying,
I am sure you know that I am lying…
What if I am next to a chatty young woman,
While I want to sit in silence, away from the gossip clan…
What if she wants to know why I am travelling alone,
Eavesdropping while I talk on the phone…
What if she rolls off her head on my shoulder in her slumber,
While I am still counting sheep, number by number…
What if she is in the middle row and wants to peep out of the window,
And I want to wave my wand, push her out and turn her into a flying crow…
What if she is a curious soul and keeps looking into my screen,
Can I push her back, being nasty and mean?
If I say that I love flying,
I am sure you know that I am lying…
Sometimes I crib and sometimes I lament,
On why such co-passengers, are my way sent…
But I still fly,
I am a traveller, that’s why!

Flowing poetry!
Nice poem. I love traveling and I consider flying a necessary evil to explore the really cool, out of the way locations.
Very cute! Alas flying is usually necessary to get to where we want to go. We just need to keep our mind on the destination and try to enjoy the ride! 😉
Ha ha I love this! Exactly what goes through my mind every time I fly too. I say this as I recover from a bout of sniffles which I’m quite certain I caught on last week’s international flight…! Great poetry.
Wow this is really great. You have got all my reasons for loving (I am a traveller) and hating (everything else) flying. Well done!
This sums up everything I love and hate about flying. The more I fly, the more things I find that annoy me funnily enough! My biggest fear is the “chatty young woman.” I just want to put my earphones in and sleep!
My biggest fear is people who do not smell nice! And I have had such bad experiences with that!
A lovely poem about a fear of yours! Keep travelling – it is so worth it!
hahaha I also hate flying! It’s more of a control thing though I think, I’d prefer to be sat where I can watch what’s going on. I once almost walked off a plane because a piolet hadn’t ironed his shirt. I don’t think it’s that unreasonable though lol. I mean if he can’t even be bothered to iron his shirt why should I trust him to fly a plane. Love the poem such a fun idea!
I love this! This is my kind of poem…. funny, truthful, and about traveling! I don’t think flying is fun for anyone. Unless of course you are one of those fortunate ones to fly first class in an Emirates plane. 🙂
I have never travelled Emirates business class! This time, I travelled from Mumbai to Sao Paulo in economy….my feet were so swollen after 17 hours of flying..took 3 days to settle down!
Ahhh the joy of travelling. It’s easiest not to think of these things. Just enjoy the moment!
Yeah…I agree…but when you are next to someone who is smelling like an onion, it becomes difficult not to think 🙁
