Devdan Show: A Glimpse of Indonesian Culture

My culture-vulture avatar is a recent self discovery. Well, not really that recent! Until about five years ago, peeking into culture and traditions wasn’t something that spiked my interest. The motive behind every trip was to see Nature in her glory; and I enjoyed every single one of those trips. Now, after having travelled to many more places, I feel that I would have ‘grown’ a lot more had I taken the effort to witness a...

Packing for Maldives

Just a week left for our next getaway! Yohooooo! Next Wednesday, we will be off to find our own little slice of paradise. We have had three little breaks since May – Bali, Bangkok and Lonavala. Yet, somehow, we feel that we deserve a ‘getaway’ in every sense of the word! We want to get away from the stress of our every day work life , from the crawling traffic in the city and from...

Maasai Warriors: Interesting Facts

There are few who can survive in the wild and call it their home too – members of the Maasai tribe are amongst these few. The Maasais are the native inhabitants of Kenya and Tanzania. Their culture is different from that of us city-dwellers and they remain loyal to it. There is so much to know and learn about them… each little detail being more interesting than the other. I was lucky that our tour...

Jokulsarlon: Photoblog

We have received emails from many of our regular readers that they would like to see photoblogs more often. So, here is a photoblog with pictures from the Jokulsarlon glacier in South Iceland. Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon Jokulsarlon, literally translated means ‘glacial river lagoon’. The vast Vatnajokull glacier melts to form the lagoon, with masses of crystal blue glacial ice. In summers, it is possible to take a boat to get closer to these floes. We were...

Templed Out in Bali!

It is said that there are more temples than houses in Bali. I am not sure whether this is true… but I do know that there are lots and lots and lots of temples in Bali. There are temples for the main Gods, for the smaller deities, for those who protect the town and the fields and many more. Had we been on a two week trip to Bali, I would have spent unending hours, wandering...

Vegetarian Eats in Thailand

Flat noodles with egg …it sure does pass the muster of our ovo-lacto-vegetarian diet. Along with flat noodles coated in a dark sauce, which I assumed was soya sauce, the dish had loads of green leaves and some off white blobs, which I assumed was some egg preparation. I filled two bowls, gave one to Ankur and went ‘chomp chomp’ with my grub. Ankur was half way through his portion when he bit something hard…...

Grand Mirage: Family Fun

For Ankur and me, travel is a mixed bag of budget and luxury destinations. However, for our friends who have toddlers, back packing is a thing of the past. They need to be in a property that has a private beach for the missus to tan herself, water sports for the mister and activities for the toddlers. We think that the activities in Bali will keep the whole family happy… and here are ten reasons for...

Want to Run a Marathon?

It is strange how many people I know have started running. Some have suddenly become health conscious,  some have it as a task on their bucketlist and some run simply to network with other runners. In Mumbai, running seems like the new ‘golf’ – a common ground that the who’s who across industries share. A few years ago, Ankur used to run the half marathon – been there, done that… he has no desire to...

Bali: Where to Stay?

Bali is an island paradise. Needless to say, pretty beaches are all around. However where you want to stay can determine the way you perceive the island. It can be an ocean of quietude, a paradise for sea food lovers or a place to let your hair down and dance through the night. You just need know what you want to do… and thus where you want to stay. We spent the first couple of...

Coffee Tasting in Ubud

Coffee tasting in Ubud was never on our itinerary. While we were in Ubud, our driver insisted that we visit the spice garden and coffee plantation. Hoping that being a local, he would give us wise advice, we went along with the idea and found ourself in a spice and and coffee plantation called Teba Sari about 15 minutes away from the Monkey Forest area. Our driver took our vehicle off the tar road, to...
